KENT STREET, Los Angeles

This Kent Street property was originally a California Bungalow built in 1905 in the community of Silver Lake, on the edge of Echo Park. Keeping with this neighborhood’s spirit of design and ecological sensitivity, this house combines 20th century aesthetic with 21st century environmental innovation.

Our proposed design has a free-flowing interior that opens to the adjoining landscape, and views of the Silver Lake hills. We will restore the beauty of this home with an updated façade and interior that suits the needs of its modern owners. With the use of simple aesthetics and ecological systems, we hope to create a home that not only saves money, but is also a healthy haven for all its inhabitants.

The sustainable elements will include:

  • Low flow fixtures

  • Surfaces and finishes made from sustainable materials

  • Drought-tolerant landscape

  • 1000 sqft of artificial turf

  • Highly efficient HVAC system

  • Energy star appliances

  • No VOC interior paints

  • Heat reflecting exterior paints

  • LED lights throughout

  • Solar ready roof

  • Greywater system

  • Reflective torch down roofing

  • Wood flooring with no formaldehyde

  • Porcelain tiles from recycled sources

  • Rain capturing irrigation planters
